Where to Eat

Eating for westerners is definitely a challenge. Here are some personal favorites:

In Addis Ababa the best eatery is Ristorante Castelli (11-10-58), having been in business since 1948 with completely authentic northern Italian food and imported wine.

The Sheraton and Hilton can be relied on for reasonable to good western-style food.

In Bahar- Dar, the Enkutatash has a pleasant faux western atmosphere with good local food and passable western fare.

In Gondar, eat local food with the locals at Yishi Ema Beat

In Lalibela, the Jerusalem guest House is the best local food in town with a pleasant African-style ambiance.

The main hotels in Lalibela (the Roha), Gondar (the Goha) and Bahar-Dar (the Tana) serve passble but ordinary local and western food.
