Meet Simba (Lion in Swahili). But, don’t let that fierce exterior fool you. Simba is the sweetest man, a lovely guy. He’s a Maasai warrior/farmer, now retired. His job, at Rekero camp in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, is to escort guests to and from their tents after dark and to be a nightwatchman on the alert for animals that roam around the camp at night. Every night, armed only with his spear and demeanor, he would keep the hippos from getting to close to our tents. Early one morning he chased off a leopard, just as we were due to depart for breakfast.
If you go to Rekero, Simba has your back.
